Did you know that as of January 1, 2024, the Corporate Transparency Act enacted by Congress requires many companies to report beneficial ownership information to the US Treasury Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN)? Beneficial ownership information (BOI), as defined by FinCEN, is identifying information about the individuals who directly or indirectly own or control a company. Annexations

Municipal Annexations

While the Secretary of State’s Office does not oversee municipal annexations, annexation documents must be filed with the Secretary of State’s Office pursuant to S.C. Code of Laws §5-3-10 et. seq.

Municipalities must file a notice of annexation with the Secretary of State, Department of Transportation, Department of Public Safety, and the Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office that includes a written description of the boundary and a map or plat which clearly defines the areas added to the municipality.
