State Election Commission

Although the Secretary of State convenes the meeting of the Electoral College following presidential elections, the South Carolina State Election Commission is the agency that registers voters and conducts elections in the State of South Carolina.  The State Election Commission provides voter registration information and publishes elections results on its website at scvotes.gov.  Recently, the State Election Commission published a booklet on Election Integrity that outlines the steps that the agency takes to keep South Carolina’s elections accurate, secure, accessible, and credible. 

South Carolina Legislature

The South Carolina Legislature is a bicameral body comprised of the House of Representatives and Senate.  Through its website at scstatehouse.gov, citizens can review pending legislation, search the South Carolina Code of Laws and State Constitution, and contact their state Senators and Representatives. 

South Carolina Governor

Citizens may contact South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster through the Governor’s Office website at governor.sc.gov.  In addition to leading the State of South Carolina, the Governor is responsible for appointing citizens to serve on many of the state boards and commissions.  For opportunities to serve on a state board or commission, please contact the Governor’s Office.  The Governor’s Office also publishes Executive Orders issued by the Governor and countersigned by the Secretary of State on its website here. 

South Carolina Attorney General

As South Carolina Attorney General, Alan Wilson is the chief prosecutor, chief securities officer, and chief legal counsel for the state.  The Attorney General’s Office is comprised of several divisions, including the Legal Services Division (which includes securities enforcement), the Criminal Division, and the Crime Victim Services Division.  Citizens may contact Attorney General Wilson through the Attorney General’s website at scag.gov.  Citizens may also file a complaint about price gouging directly through the Attorney General’s website. 

South Carolina Treasurer

Citizens may contact South Carolina State Treasurer Curtis Loftis through the State Treasurer’s website at treasurer.sc.gov.  The Office of the State Treasurer serves as the bank for the government of South Carolina by managing, investing, and retaining custody of the state’s funds.  The State Treasurer also operates South Carolina’s Unclaimed Property Program.
